NEWTONIUM

What it is

Newtonium is a club where students lecture each other on the STEM that interests them - physics, maths, engineering, computing, anything in that direction. Pick something that fascinates you and take the room through it for about 25 minutes: your slides, your rules. The aim is a broad range of topics across the year, chosen by whoever turns up rather than set by a syllabus.

Talks don't have to be perfect - the point is sharing some fun STEM. Or just come and listen; there is no obligation to speak, and you can drop into whichever talks catch your eye.

How a session runs

1. 1.10pm - the second half of lunch starts, and so does the talk, in Lab G24. Bring your lunch if you need to.
2. About 25 minutes - long enough to go properly into one idea, short enough to leave time at the end.
3. Questions - the last few minutes are for the room. Often the best part.

Give a talk

Anyone who comes can offer one. There is a sign-up QR code at the session - scan it, pick a Thursday and say what you want to talk about. The rota is planned from there, so if you want a particular date, or want to claim a topic before someone else does, sign up early.

You need a topic and a way to show it. Slides are the usual choice, but a whiteboard and a good idea works just as well. If you are not sure whether your topic fits: if it is STEM, and you can make a room of Fourth Years and above care about it for 25 minutes, it fits.
